Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (GEMS) Testing

Comtest is NATA-accredited to perform comprehensive energy efficiency and performance testing under the Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (GEMS) framework.

We conduct energy labelling, Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) evaluations, and standby power and energy consumption testing for a range of products including computers, computer monitors, external power supplies, and televisions.

Working in close collaboration with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), Comtest helps ensure that products supplied to the Australian market accurately reflect their declared energy efficiency and performance claims.

Our testing provides manufacturers and importers with confidence that their products meet all regulatory, technical, and labelling obligations before supply.

Supplier Responsibilities under GEMS

Suppliers of regulated products are required to:

  • Demonstrate compliance with the applicable GEMS Determination, ensuring products meet Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) and energy labelling requirements.
  • Register each product model on the E3 (Equipment Energy Efficiency) website before sale or supply in Australia.
  • Maintain up-to-date technical evidence, including test reports and supporting documentation, for audit or verification by DCCEEW.
  • Ensure all energy claims are accurate, as non-compliance or misleading labelling may result in enforcement action under the GEMS Act 2012.

Comtest not only provides accredited testing and performance evaluation but can also manage and organise product registration directly through the E3 website on behalf of our clients, simplifying the compliance process from testing through to full regulatory approval.

This ensures your products are properly listed, compliant, and ready for supply in both Australia and New Zealand markets.
