Changes to requirements for telecommunications products
We’re here to update you on standard AS/CA S008:2020, which has just been announced by the Communications Alliance. While the regulatory standard remains the same — Telecommunications Technical Standard (Requirements for customer cabling products – AS/CA S008), the 2020 version brings updated requirements. Here’s what you need to know.
When does it come into effect?
The older version of the standard can no longer be used, and the 2020 version is effective immediately.
What has been changed?
Flammability and marking requirements have been updated. The largest change will be the new fitness for purpose requirements for cable products, defined here (page 16).
Will I be affected by this standard and what should I do?
If you are unsure whether your product will be affected by the updated standard, we suggest reaching out to one of our representatives who can discuss whether you are required to obtain testing. We have the facilities already in-house to perform tests for the fitness for purpose requirements and are familiar with Australian compliance legislation. This is the fastest to ensure your product stays compliant — you can save time and resources by testing for the correct standards.
