If you manufacture, import, or sell connected products in Australia, you must prepare now to ensure your devices comply.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<div class=\"vc_separator wpb_content_element vc_separator_align_center vc_sep_width_100 vc_sep_pos_align_center vc_separator_no_text vc_sep_color_grey wpb_content_element  wpb_content_element\" ><span class=\"vc_sep_holder vc_sep_holder_l\"><span class=\"vc_sep_line\"><\/span><\/span><span class=\"vc_sep_holder vc_sep_holder_r\"><span class=\"vc_sep_line\"><\/span><\/span>\n<\/div>\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p><strong>Which Smart Devices Are Affected?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The rules apply to any <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislation.gov.au\/C2024A00098\/asmade\/2024-11-29\/text\/1\/epub\/OEBPS\/document_1\/document_1.html#_Toc184306667\"><strong>connectable product<\/strong><\/a>, defined in two main ways:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Internet-connectable products<\/strong>: devices that connect directly to the internet via TCP\/IP, UDP, or IP.<br \/>\n<em>Examples: routers, IP cameras, VoIP phones, smart switches.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>Network-connectable products<\/strong>: devices that connect to internet-connectable products via internet protocols, or support multiple connections via alternative communication protocols.<br \/>\n<em>Examples: Bluetooth speakers, televisions, wireless headsets.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Exempt products include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Desktop and laptop PCs<\/li>\n<li>Smartphones and tablets<\/li>\n<li>Medical devices regulated under the <strong>Therapeutic Goods Act<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Vehicles and components regulated under the <strong>Road Vehicle Standards Act<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<div class=\"vc_separator wpb_content_element vc_separator_align_center vc_sep_width_100 vc_sep_pos_align_center vc_separator_no_text vc_sep_color_grey wpb_content_element  wpb_content_element\" ><span class=\"vc_sep_holder vc_sep_holder_l\"><span class=\"vc_sep_line\"><\/span><\/span><span class=\"vc_sep_holder vc_sep_holder_r\"><span class=\"vc_sep_line\"><\/span><\/span>\n<\/div>\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p><strong>What Are the Key Requirements?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Manufacturers and importers must ensure that:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Unique Passwords<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Devices cannot ship with generic default passwords (e.g. \u201cadmin123\u201d). Each unit must have a unique, non-guessable password.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Security Issue Reporting<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Users must have a clear channel to report vulnerabilities in both hardware and software.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Defined Support Period<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Manufacturers must publish the length of product support and updates.
