Short Circuit Test Unveils Potential Hazards
Watch the testing of a child’s lithium-ion battery-powered electric toy. The test was a short circuit test, identified as the cause of the reported incident, due to band design and cheap low-quality lithium-ion batteries used. As a result of the short circuit, the battery heated up and went into thermal runaway, causing a breakdown inside the battery and the resultant explosion. A properly designed product would have short circuit protection built in, which would avert such an occurrence.
